We're challenging ourselves to look at how we do things, and we're making changes throughout our stores. Our top priorities are to use less energy and reduce waste. Throughout the country, we're conducting lighting retrofits to reduce energy consumption. In our San Francisco stores, we're proud to have rolled out an aggressive recycling program.
The way we package our products has also changed. Last year, we said farewell to Styrofoam peanuts in favor of eco–friendly air pillows, and we've also reduced packing materials by using smaller, recycled boxes. That means fewer delivery trucks are on the road, which means less gas is used in delivery.
In our stores, we continue to grow our Refresh & Renew program, which is designed to support environmentally sound practices. Our gift boxes are now made from 100% recycled materials, are 100% recyclable, and are printed with eco–friendly water–based inks. Our everyday gift box eliminates the need for extra wrap, and our gift–registry wrapping paper is made from 30% post–consumer waste. Even the ribbon is now woven of cotton and linen instead of conventional polyester grosgrain. We also do little things that add up, like reusing shipping boxes for customer orders and printing in–store signs on FSC–certified paper.
We're pushing ourselves to look in every corner of our business for possible solutions, and we plan to share our progress as we move forward.
