This remarkable depiction of the American symbol for the journey westward is hand cut from a vintage road map. The painting is unusual in that it is an image that also calls up sound: the song, (Get Your Kicks On) Route 66, has been recorded by artists as varied as Nat King Cole and The Rolling Stones.
