Taken from the sidewalk, this photograph only hints at the hotels grand proportions. This unusual scene portends the hotels relatively short life on Times Square. Built in 1905 in the Beaux Arts style complete with 1,000 guest rooms and a green-copper mansard roof, it was destroyed in 1967, and eventually replaced by a modern high-rise.
