Daily Wall System

Being organized is good for you. How? It reduces stress big time, for one thing. That helps you sleep better at night, gives you a positive attitude and makes you feel happier. When you’re happy, things fall into place like dominoes. Concentration and creativity increase at work, boosting your productivity. You also have more time to spend with friends and family, which fills your life with satisfaction. At Pottery Barn, we’re happy when you’re happy. Our daily systems make staying organized much easier, saving you time and energy. How do they work? What exactly is a daily system?

A daily system is a tool that keeps everything you need to stay organized in one place. Think of it as a little pocket organizer, but transformed. It’s extremely hands-on, visually exciting and practical. Many daily systems include a whiteboard, pinboard, chalkboard, letter bin, clipboard holder and more. Where can you put them? Anywhere you want! The idea is to cater to your personal routine. If you want to organize gardening tasks, keep your magnetic calendar whiteboard near your tools in the garage or shed. A daily system with hooks even gives you place to hang aprons, gloves and other accessories. Many people like to place a daily system in their home office or bedroom, right above their desk.

Do you want a few tips on using your daily system to streamline your day? Here are some great ideas that work. One thing to keep in mind: everyone is unique, so what’s best for you might be totally different for anyone else. Try out some suggestions, see which ones work for you and adapt them to fit your lifestyle.

It’s good to take a few minutes every day to plan things out and prepare yourself mentally before getting to work. Some people like to set aside 10–15 minutes at night to get ready for the next day. It’s a great idea as long as you still sleep OK. Otherwise check your list in the morning. Using a whiteboard or chalkboard, write down a list of things you want to get done. Start with the most important things first. As you finish them one by one, check them off your list. A magnetic calendar lets you jot down important appointments or dates that you need to remember. If you like to plan a few months ahead of time, include more than one magnetic calendar in your custom daily system.

It’s also good to know yourself. Are you a morning person? Do you usually focus better after lunch? That information helps you decide what tasks to assign to each portion of the day. If you have more energy in the morning, for example, try to finish more intensive goals then. That way you have a sense of accomplishment and less stress when the afternoon rolls around.

Keep things lighthearted. The idea is to motivate yourself, but not push yourself. That’s because a happy, low-pressure environment actually helps you work faster anyway. One suggestion? View things like coffee breaks and snacks as rewards for finishing a task. That way you have something to look forward to, and your mind stays free of distractions while you’re working.

Drawers, bookcases and bins are good to have in your daily system area since they keep any task essentials close by. You know exactly where everything is so you save tons of time and get the most out of your day. Again, no one else can tell you where to put things. Keep important items in a spot that seems logical to you. That way reaching for them becomes almost second nature. Did you know that drinking enough water helps you get things done too? If you’re dehydrated – fairly common when you wake up in the morning – it makes you feel fatigued and drowsy. Water wakes you up and gives you energy.

Don’t forget to congratulate yourself on a job well done at the end of the day. Stay positive. Feel good for all of the things you accomplished. It motivates you to continue completing projects and increases your creativity too.
