Thanksgiving Table Settings

The holidays are the time of the year many people look forward to the most. Getting together with friends and family around the dinner table to celebrate gratefulness and another year together is quite a thing to behold every year. Of course, friends and family also look forward to the food. Whether it’s your first time doing the Thanksgiving spread or you’ve been the go-to house for the turkey and all the trimmings year after year, there are an assortment of different types of Thanksgiving table settings that not only enliven your table with seasonal accents, but also perform a function to help make dinner much more seamless for both the guests and the host.

There’s no prerequisite that insists you have a set of holiday dinner plates, but they definitely help to make a table look grand during a Thanksgiving meal. Choose from autumnal and seasonally themed plates, such as those with pumpkin or turkey motifs. Choose from both salad and dinner plates to finish off your Thanksgiving look.

Autumn colors typically mean warm, soft hues such as beiges, browns and coppers. Add a set of napkin rings to your table that feature a warm copper or gold construction to liven and brighten the mood. In addition to their warm color, many napkin rings from Pottery Barn have the ability to be personalized and monogrammed, making them ideal to begin a Thanksgiving tradition. This type of personalization also makes a terrific, thoughtful gift for the winter holidays or for special occasions. Also, look for accessories that are decorative in nature yet also serve a purpose. Pumpkin-shaped snack bowls allow guests to snack during the football game or before dinner while gourd salt and pepper shakers work well at Thanksgiving, but also throughout the entire fall season. A gourd-shaped condiment set allows you to store items like sugar, tea bags and sweeteners on the table for guests to use. You may also decorate your table with autumnal decor for a themed touch. Look for fall and Thanksgiving garland, candle holders and candles for a distinctive fall feel.

Glassware is also essential to a holiday table, so consider items such as decorative yet useful wine decanter to pass the table wine, and a set of stemware to serve your guests. It’s always good to have a set of both red and white wine glasses on hand, and Thanksgiving is an ideal time to put them to use. Depending on the tone of your gathering, you and your family may enjoy having a mixed drink from a copper mule mug, or a shot from a mini Moscow mule shot glass, especially when the games are on TV. Water goblets and other glassware is a necessity for Halloween and for the kids’ table. Thanksgiving is also the time to have a set of good flatware that is rarely used for other occasions.

Whether your guests are served buffet style or are sitting down, you will need trays, chargers and bowls to help serve. Look for wooden trays that either hold appetizers or work well as trivets for hot foods on the dinner table. Chargers help hold plates and other items while large bowls offer bread, fruit and other necessities. Look for items with relevant motifs. A wooden turkey carving platter with etched metal sides in the shape of a turkey adds an elegant touch to the table while serving platters with Thanksgiving themes can match to your dinner and salad plates easily. Decorate your table with linens that match the holiday. Choose from solid, warm colors in caramel, pumpkin or spice color, or opt for runners with fall leaves and decorative pumpkins. Choose warmly colored linen napkins to add that last piece of perfection to your Thanksgiving table.
