Types of Bath Linens

Towels and washcloths are an essential part of any bathroom. Because you use them every day, choosing the best set of bath linens for your family is an important decision. From selecting the right style of bath linens to cleaning and storing them, Pottery Barn has all of the information you're looking for to create a cozy bathroom.

Choosing Bath Linens

To find the set ideal for you, it’s important to consider what you’re looking for in a towel. Is softness your top priority? If so, consider some of our organic towels. These bath linens are woven using a special spinning technique that allows air to pass through the fabric’s fibers. They also have a luxuriously soft feel to them so you get that ultrasoft touch you’ve been craving. If a quick dry is important to you, consider a set of our hydrocotton linens that are designed to be 10 times more absorbent than traditional cotton terry material. You’ll love how quickly you can dry your body after a long, relaxing shower or bath.

Are you concerned about the environment? If so, try a set of towels made of eco-friendly fabric. These soft towels are made with organic cotton so you feel good about the products in your home. Our organic towels are OEKO-TEX® certified, which means they are healthy for you and the environment. Select coordinating washcloths or hand towels from our eco-friendly collection to complete the room. Imagine taking a warm shower after a long day. Now, imagine drying off with a soft towel that is kind to your skin and kind to the environment. You’ll feel terrific knowing your purchase made a difference in the world.

Caring for Bath Linens

Once you have a set of bath towels you love, it’s important to care for them properly so they perform well and last for years to come. To clean, we recommend machine washing bath towels once every three days if you hang them to dry after each use. For light-colored towels, it’s best to wash them in warm water. Likewise, we suggest using cold water on dark-colored towels to prevent color fading. To ensure you don’t damage the fabric in any way, avoid having contact between the towels and any harsh chemicals or facial products. After washing, dry your towels quickly in the dryer on low. Unlike bath towels, it’s important to switch out your hand towels every day or two. Hand towels tend to stay slightly damp because they are used constantly so it’s important to wash them frequently.

Decorating with Bath Linens

While they serve an essential purpose, bath linens can also be used for decorative reasons. Consider adding some color to your bathroom by displaying your towels on one of our bathroom wall shelves. Choose two or three colors as inspiration and place folded or rolled bath towels and extra hand towels on the shelf. Rolling your bath towels is easy to do and quickly adds a spa-like feel to any bathroom. Consider rolling the towels in your guest bathroom for an instant update. Guests will feel as though they just walked into a luxurious spa. Be sure to add necessities like soaps and lotions to the shelf so your guests have everything they need at their fingertips.

Stocking the Space

To ensure you’re prepared for unexpected guests or in case you feel like skipping laundry day, fill your bathroom cabinets with plenty of extra bath linens. Fold the bath towels in even squares to neatly stack within the cabinet. Consider using smaller storage items like baskets within the cabinet or on the shelves to store extra washcloths and hand towels. Experiment with rolling the individual washcloths for an interesting visual display on the counter. The possibilities for your bathroom update are endless when you fill the room with multiple sets of our soft, plush bath linens.
