How to
Enjoy Your Outdoor
Spaces This Fall
As we say goodbye to summer and hello to fall, it doesn’t mean we have to take the party inside. Whether cashing in on the end-of-summer sales by furnishing your entire space, or making a few seasonal updates, here’s how to get the most of your outdoor spaces this season.
LET’S LOUNGE
Whether you’re working with a sprawling backyard or a smaller balcony, setting up a place to lounge around is step one. Start with a sectional, sofa or chaise that fits your space. Center your seating around a coffee table – or flank a sofa with two sides – so you can keep your (hot or cold) apple cider or mulled wine within easy reach.
ROLL OUT A RUG
Fall is the season between sandals and slippers. As the weather cools off and leaves start to fall, create a soft underfoot with a warm and cozy rug. Outdoor rugs are perfect for patios and sunrooms alike, and can be layered one or two high for extra style. Opt for easy-to-clean materials, like recycled PET, or a fully reversible one for double the wear.
OH, GLOW ON
Get your summer glow going well into the beginning of fall with lanterns that line your pathways or are set atop your table. From sunset soirees to family time around the fire pit, lanterns are perfect to pair with worry-free flameless candles.
GRAB A THROW
As the days get shorter and the nights get brisker, make sure to have a cozy throw or two on hand for when you need an extra layer. Wrap up in plush faux fur on cooler nights, or grab for a cotton/linen blend on the warmer ones.
MAKE MEALS AL FRESCO
Fresh air and the scent of freshly fallen leaves create a lovely backdrop for an al fresco meal. Pull out your favorite patio-friendly dinnerware and glassware, keep the menu simple and whip up an autumn-inspired cocktail.
The summer season may be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean that you have to spend all your time inside. Add a few extra layers to your outdoor spaces, and you’re ready to take the fall season in stride.
